Centro d’Ompio
We spent five weeks at Centro d’Ompio helping to run the beautiful, tranquil retreat center in Northern Italy. Centro d’Ompio is situated on a sunny terrace above Lake Orta, surrounded by lush gardens with panoramic views of the lake below.
The retreat center is open year-round and plays host to wide-range of seminars, retreats and events including yoga, massage, meditation, music and art. The center is also open to individuals and families looking for a peaceful holiday escape.
With its moderate climate and spacious grounds, Centro d’Ompio is a perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy the beauty of Italy’s northern lakes.

Centro d’Ompio was founded in 1987 with the goal of creating a place where people from around the world can come to escape, learn and soak in the serenity of Lake Orta.
The retreat center is located on 25 acres of land with gardens, forest, meadows, creeks and a pond, all connected by walking trails. Between its three building the center can accommodate up to 70 people at one time. Four seminar rooms allow retreat hosts to divide their groups and run different classes and workshops simultaneously.
Off property, the lake, surrounding countryside and charming town of Orta San Giulio provide a plethora of nearby activities ranging from hikes and swimming to lake-side dining and entertainment.
Centro d’Ompio can accommodate up to 70 people in three main buildings: Casa Principale, the Pool House and Casa Felicina. Rooms are simple, clean and airy with some offering views of the pool and lake in the distance.
There are a variety of room types ranging from private two-bed rooms with en suite bathrooms to large seven-bed dorms with shared bathrooms.

Centro d’Ompio is a vegetarian retreat center that serves buffet-style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meals are inspired by authentic Italian cuisine and made using fresh, local ingredients. While all meals are served as buffets, special requests and dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
In general dishes served include fresh salads, pasta sautéed vegetables, quinoa, nuts and legumes.
