Snuggled up and spilling into the Adriatic Sea, Croatia’s generously lengthy coast is a perfect reason on its own to visit this gorgeous country. With more than 1,200 islands, eight phenomenal national parks, and endless eclectic, charming and exciting cities and World Heritage sites to explore, this nation will always remain one of our favorites. Plitvice Lakes National Park and the stunning city of Dubrovnik are not to be missed.

When to Go: July-August delivers ideal weather if you are visiting the coast. However, visiting on the shoulder of summer might mean sparser crowds. We visited Croatia during winter, and despite it being cold, we absolutely loved the winter vibe and nightly Christmas markets in Zagreb.
